WFMW- tattoo removal

Today is school picture day and my kids had those temporary tattoos all over there arms (actually Maddie had the most on her arms).

I didn't want school pictures with my kids looking like they had just gotten out of prison or joined a gang. So, I got out the rubbing alcohol and a kleenex.

It is very simple- you just need to pour some rubbing alcohol on the kleenex and rub/scrub the tattoo. It takes less than a minute to remove the tattoo. Then just use water to wash off the area.

WFMW- Zafu (finding the perfect bra/jeans)

*Edit- I thought this post would also work for Fight the Frump by Fussy!*

Today is WFMW over at Shannon's blog. If you want more tips you can check out her blog.

If you need to find the perfect pair of jeans or a bra check out this website- Zafu.

This site isn't owned by any one particular company so you don't have to worry about it being bias. It gives you a range of prices and stores (some are online, some are dept. stores, some are Walmart type stores and some are high end stores).

It takes about 3 minutes to complete the process. If I remember correctly it has a 90% accuracy rate. Can't beat that. Saves you time and money when you go searching for those perfect items. Give it a try.

WFMW- testing egg freshness

If you need to know if an egg sitting in your fridge is still fresh then I have the answer for you! This works well also if you buy farm fresh eggs because there is no "date" marked on the cartoon for how long the egg is fresh for.

1st- fill a cup with cold water.

2nd- place the egg in the cup and if it floats then it is no good. Throw it out. Otherwise if the egg sits on the bottom of the glass then it is fine to go.

WFMW- ReRun (Wrapping Paper)

This week for Works for Me Wednesday Shannon is having us do a Greatest Hits Edition. From our own archives we can re-run one of our favorite of your own WFMWs. I picked a popular one I did right after Christmas.

Here it is again in all its glory!
It is Works for Me Wednesday again and I'm going to show you how to keep your wrapping paper from getting ruined when you put away for next year.

Take an old pair of nylons or tights. Cut the leg off and put the wrapping paper in the leg hole. Then just tie a knot at the top. No more getting out your Christmas wrapping paper and finding it all wrinkled and ruined.

I used my girls old tights for this project.

WFMW: Bread Bowls

Today is WFMW over at Shannon's blog. If you want more tips you can check out her blog.

My kids like to use bread bowls for their chili. I buy a two pack of bread bowls at the local grocery store bakery.

Then I angle a serrated knife and cut around the top (like pumpkin).

I pull out the extra "dough" and fill the bowl with chili and top it with cheese. Yummy! The kids like eating the "inners" of the bread bowl.

Give it a try if you are looking at making dinner or lunch more fun. :)

Backwards Edition of WFMW- The Cat's Water

This week Rocks In My Dryer is hosting a Backwards Edition of WFMW. This means I get to ask a question and then readers give me helpful tips.

This problem drives me batty (or should I say "catty"). The cat's water is always getting ruined because the cats drop pieces of their food in it. What is up with that? I will spare you a picture of soggy cat food floating in their water.

I've tried moving the water dish a few feet away from the food bowl but they still seem to think it is okay to drop a piece or two into the water bowl. And to answer your next question- "no, they don't eat it after it drops in the water dish!" Actually they won't drink out of their water dish once it has been contaminated by soggy cat food. Instead the cats get into the sink to get a drink. Which I don't want to encourage.

How do you deal with this at your household?

WFMW- Watering a Poinsettia

I can't believe it is already time for Works-for-me-Wednesday. You can find other tips by clicking here.

To water a poinsettia and not "over water it" just place 2 or 3 ice cubes (depending on the size of your poinsettia) in the soil. It will slowly melt and not kill your poinsettia. Check the dirt every few days to see if feels dry. If so add an ice cube or two.

If you need a good way to water your Christmas tree....check out my last weeks post. You can click on the picture to see it better.

Watering your Christmas Tree- WFMW

This is my Works for Me Wednesday post. You can find other WFMW tips on Shannon's blog.

To water your Christmas tree without making a mess use a piece of pvc pipe and insert it into the water bowl (where you place the tree trunk).

Then use a pitcher of water to pour down the pvc pipe (like funnel). It is as simple as that...no mess!

WFMW- Lunch for Dinner & Dinner for Lunch

I was sharing with a friend the other day about our new daily schedule. She told me that I should share this tip.

When school started this year (Sept) our son's gymnastics team changed their work out time from the morning time (Summer schedule) to a night schedule. Andrew now practices from 5:30 to 8:30 pm 5 days a week.

Well, that means he/we have to eat at 4:30 so he can have food before he practices.

So, my hubby suggested we switch our "menu" around. Now, we have our big "dinner" type meal at lunch and at 4:30 pm we eat more of lunch type food (sandwiches).

Of course this works for us because we homeschool and Jay come home for lunch.

Another benefit to this schedule is the dining room table stays cleaner. I have more time and energy after lunch to do the dishes then after dinner. So, I love having a clean kitchen when I wake up in the morning.

WFMW- Toilet paper storage

Have you ever been in a friend's bathroom and realized there is no toilet paper on the roll? Now, what? Do you yell out to someone for MORE TOILET PAPER?! Or do you go without? Or do you desperately search the bathroom cabinets for toilet paper?
Well, this happened at our house several years ago when my G'ma came to visit. She informed me after not finding toilet paper that you should always have toilet paper available in your bathroom so not to embarrass your guest. Well, we don't have cabinets in the front bathroom (pedestal sink). So, there was no where to put toilet paper rolls except for on top the toilet tank. We tried that but with young kids the toilet paper would end up falling in to the toilet and being ruined. So, I decided it was time to do some research at the local Walmart and Target for a solution.
Here is what I found.

It holds two rolls of toilet paper. That is not our toilet paper dispenser, that is across from the toilet.
This gadget just hooks to the inside of the toilet tank.
We have had this for about 6 years and it has worked well for us.

WFMW- REDBOX

Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer is hosting Works For Me Wednesday.

We recently discovered a new thing called REDBOX. Around here you found them in McDonald's and Albertsons. You can rent a movie for a $1.00 a night and you can return it to ANY REDBOX. You can even order it online and it will be waiting for you to pick it up.

This past Sunday when we went to Portland we rented a kid movie through REDBOX and then returned it to Eugene when we returned back home. How cool is that?!

There are lots of movies I won't ever watch but there are few that we have seen. I'm not sure why they have so many horror movies but maybe if they see enough people renting other movies they will start getting more of that genre.

Every Tuesday they get more "new" movies to rent. Also get your first rental free by entering the code- REDBOX.

Just be careful you will start saying "it is only dollar"...so, when you drop off the movie then you pick up another movie because it is only a dollar.

WFMW- The Brand-Loyal Edition

Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer is hosting The Brand-Loyal Edition of Works For Me Wednesday.

I'm loyal to Chocolate & Very Vanilla soy milk made by Silk. I love the taste and flavor. That is my drink of choice for breakfast.

For my pets I only buy Precise dog and cat food. I have to go to a Speciality pet store (not Petsmart). I have healthy pets with beautiful coats.

WFMW- Vegetable Peeler

This week for my Works-for-me-Wednesday I'm going to talk about a Vegetable Peeler that my G'ma bought me while she was visiting in April.

I love this vegetable peeler. To see the other side of this vegetable peeler and also see Samantha (my oldest) using it to make dinner go to this post. I have to say this vegetable peeler makes me want to peel potatoes. I go to Costco and buy those HUGE potatoes just so I can peel them. It is like Tom Sawyer factor...the kids see me having fun peeling potatoes and then they want to peel potatoes.

WFMW- Birthday Tradition

At Rocks in My Dryer there is a WFMW blog. Each week people from all over post what works for them. This is my 2nd WFMW.

We have a birthday tradition that means the birthday person wakes up to having their bedroom door decorated with streamers. After the kids go to bed I attach streamers to masking tape and then hang it over the bedroom door. The kids love this tradition so much they do it to our bedroom door on our birthday (except they get up really early and do it before we get out of bed in the morning).

WFMW- Shadow as my helper

At Rocks in My Dryer there is a WFMW blog. Each week people from all over post what works for them. This is my first time joining in.

When I need help getting the kids up in the morning...I open their bedroom doors and the cat will go in a snuggle the kids. Shadow does the best job waking up all three kids because after awhile if they don't wake up Shadow will meow at them and kneed in their hair.
